Bimbo Adekanmbi
Abimbola “Bimbo” Adekanmbi, FCCA, is a Nigerian chartered accountant, public-finance professional, technocrat and political figure whose career spans commercial banking, international consulting and senior public service in Oyo State. He is widely known for serving as Deputy Chief of Staff and later Commissioner for Finance, Budget and Planning in the administration of the late Governor Abiola Ajimobi.
Adekanmbi has deep roots in Ibadan. He has spoken publicly about growing up across Apata, Iwo Road and Bodija, in a family closely connected to community life and commerce. His educational and professional path has remained centred on accounting, finance and strategy. He studied Accounting at Obafemi Awolowo University, later obtained a B.Sc. in Applied Accounting from Oxford Brookes University and an MBA in Strategy and Finance from Liverpool John Moores University, and became a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (FCCA).
Before entering government, Adekanmbi built experience in banking in Lagos and later in consulting and finance roles in the United Kingdom. His public professional record includes work involving large institutional finance systems and business-process environments, experience he later brought into government.
He entered Oyo State public service in 2011 as Deputy Chief of Staff. He also served in the state’s internal-revenue leadership before being appointed Commissioner for Finance, Budget and Planning in 2016, a position he held until 2019. In July 2024, Governor Seyi Makinde appointed him Chairman of the committee overseeing the upgrade of the Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport, Ibadan, a major state infrastructure assignment that has continued into 2026.
In May 2026, the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) adopted Adekanmbi as its consensus governorship candidate for Oyo State ahead of the 2027 election. Governor Makinde subsequently identified him publicly as his preferred successor. Through OYO NEXT, the Campaign for Bimbo Adekanmbi is building a digital platform for public ideas, policy conversations, events, volunteering and community participation around the future of Oyo State.
