Oyo Police Launch Safe School Initiative as Schools Resume

12 September 2026

Ibadan, Oyo State — September 12, 2026**

The Oyo State Police Command, in partnership with the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), has launched a **Safe School Initiative** aimed at strengthening security around schools as students return for the new academic session.

The initiative was launched on Friday, September 11, alongside activities marking the **42nd anniversary of the PCRC in Oyo State**.

According to the Police Command, the programme will focus on increasing police visibility around schools, protecting pupils, students, teachers and other school personnel, safeguarding school infrastructure and improving community-based intelligence gathering.

The Police also emphasised the importance of prompt reporting of suspicious persons, vehicles, movements and activities around schools.

The initiative will involve closer engagement between the Police, PCRC Safe School Club, school proprietors and administrators, Parent-Teacher Associations, teachers, parents and students.

The Command said sustainable school safety requires the collective responsibility of security agencies, schools and members of the public. It urged residents to embrace the message:

**“See Something, Say Something.”**

The Police assured residents that personnel assigned to school protection would remain vigilant, maintain close contact with school communities and respond promptly to credible security information.

The initiative is expected to strengthen cooperation between communities and security agencies while helping create a safer and more conducive environment for learning across Oyo State.

**OyoNext encourages parents, students, teachers and community members to remain vigilant and report genuine security concerns through appropriate channels.**
